a village pub with an authentic soul
One of the last true country pubs.
Tucked away in the village of Vernham Dean on the Hampshire and Wiltshire border, The George is a proper country pub. The sort that’s getting harder to find! This building has been here since the 16th century and for most of that time it’s done exactly what it does today. Bring people together over good food, good beer and a bit of conversation.
For the past nine years the pub has been run by our landlord Reece. He cares deeply about the place and about the community around it. The George isn’t just somewhere to stop for a drink. It’s where neighbours meet, dogs curl up under the tables and there’s usually a good reason to stay for one more.
Alongside the pints and the delicious food, we host everything from folk nights and quizzes to themed dinners and shoot lunches. It’s all part of keeping the traditional country pub alive and making sure this one continues to thrive.
Pubs like this matter, and we’re proud to look after it.
